Karate

Our Karate is rooted in the style called Shotokan.  The system we practice today has evolved over the years as many things have been added.  We are an affiliate school of Puckett's Noble House of Karate in Sidney and this is our main influence. 

Fall 2025 Karate Programs

  • Beginner/Family Karate Class Fall 2025 Registration

    Whether you're new to martial arts or looking for a fun and active way to train with your family, this class is the perfect place to start!

    📅 Term Dates: September 8 – December 2025
    📍 Location: Saltspring Elementary School Gym
    🕠 Schedule: Mondays & Thursdays, 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
    💵 Fee: $350 for the Fall term (September–December)
    🔄 Prorated fees available for late starters — new students are welcome to join anytime throughout the season.

    This program is open to ages 8 and up, and follows the Shotokan style of Karate, with added elements of jiujitsu and kickboxing to build confidence, coordination, and strength in a supportive environment.

  • Advanced Karate Class Fall 2025 Registration

    Looking to take your skills to the next level? Our Advanced Karate Class starts with a shared session alongside the Beginner & Family class, then transitions into focused advanced training after a short break at 6:30 PM.

About Our Belt Structure


  • To be eligible for belt testing, students must complete the following minimum number of classes:

    • White Belt → Yellow Belt: 35 classes

    • Yellow Belt → Yellow Stripe: 25 classes

    • Yellow Stripe → Orange Belt: 30 classes

    • Orange Belt → Orange Stripe: 30 classes

    • Orange Stripe → Green Belt: 30 classes

    • Green Belt → Green Stripe: 40 classes

    • Green Stripe → Blue Belt: 40 classes

    • Blue Belt → Blue Stripe: 60 classes

    • Blue Stripe → Brown Belt: 60 classes

    • Brown Belt → Brown Stripe: 60 classes

    • Brown Stripe → Black Belt: 60 classes

  • Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt):

    • All previous kata

    • Two advanced kata (e.g., Bassai Dai, Jion, etc.)

    • One weapon kata

    Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt):

    • All previous kata

    • Three advanced kata

    • One weapon kata
